I’ve often suspected over the years that we have a disproportionately large number of above average intelligence people in treatment for substance use disorders. It’s always been anecdotal but it seems as though there may be some research to support my observations.

I’ve also noticed treatment interventions that work with average intelligence clients don’t always work as well with higher functioning clients. I’d be interested to hear thoughts or experiences from others.
